Caregiver Mental Wellness is a start-up, nonprofit organization based out of Concord, North Carolina, dedicated to raising awareness, providing education, and advocating for family caregivers to help mitigate caregiver burnout. Their mission is to provide family caregivers with the information, strategies, resources, and working environments needed to foster their physical, emotional, and mental well-bring while balancing caregiving responsibilities, personal lives, and careers.
During her sixteen-year caregiving journey, the founder of Caregiver Mental Wellness used her own personal and professional experience and research to inform and create a practical and holistic program that answers the question once posed to her by a doctor: “Are you taking care of yourself?” With millions of retiring baby boomers and a large percentage of children with some form of chronic disease, those serving in caregiving roles – within and outside of the workforce – are stressed.
The CCME Foundation provided a $12,148 grant for the production of eLearning video modules, developed to provide specific education to caregivers for the purpose of fostering well-being and self-care for five different caregiving groups: elderly caregivers, adult caregivers, parents caring for children, youth caregivers, and grandparents serving as primary caregivers of their grandchildren. Because many caregivers do not identify with the label of caregiver, the videos are created to use terminology that resonates with the specific groups, ensuring the content speaks directly to their unique caregiving journey. The educational modules will also include topics such as nutrition, exercise, self-love, healthy boundaries, communication skills, and mindfulness.
